“See what kind of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God; and so we are. The reason why the world does not know us is that it did not know him. Beloved, we are God’s children now, and what we will be has not yet appeared; but we know that when he appears we shall be like him, because we shall see him as he is.”
‭‭1 John‬ ‭3:1-2‬ ‭ESV‬‬

One of the biggest struggles men face in this era is that of identity. Each and every area of modern society is lacking in this aspect. We’ve lost the central tenets of life that helped men of the past along their journey to manhood. Gone the rites of passage that once ushered boys into becoming men. When we’re missing this essential piece of the puzzle, we search everywhere and anywhere, and come up short.

I submit to you, however, that who we are is not the question we should be searching to answer. All that we’re looking for can’t be found in that quest. More important than who we are is whose we are. When we seek out that truth, we find all of the answers to who we are as a result.

God, our Father, has given the gift of adoption in a wonderful act of grace. In His love, He allows us to become His children. He gives to us all the riches due a child of the King. Abundant life, the power of the Holy Spirit within us, coheirship with Christ, the promises go on.

When were born again it’s with a new identity: Child of God. In this life, we will never even fully know what that means. But we do know that were created in the image of God and that we bear His family name.

The idea of family identity may not be as strong as it once was. We who are living today probably don’t understand this powerful truth as those before us did. But what if we tried to grasp it? What if we studied God’s Word for that deeper meaning of what it truly means to be adopted by God; to have him as our Father? I encourage you to do just that, and I’ll be doing the same. Our real identity lies and whose we we are.
